M6 finds Large One Cent!

You never know what you're going to find metal detecting. After purchasing the new M6 I was practicing how to use it in the yard around our home (which by the way doesn't take very long.)

I had found several newer coins, when it detected a penny. I dug it up and it was an 1841 large cent. Since purchasing the White's metal detector my wife has purchased a Prizm IV and my eight year old grandson has a Prizm II. We are really enjoying the hobby of metal detecting.

M6 helps get all the silver before Spring!

Hello white's, my name is Rob. I have always been a White's customer, and just recently got the new Matrix M6. My buddies Chris, Kirk, and Kyle have been detecting right through the winter. They too are White's users also (XL pros). We all have been pounding the heck out of a park in the northern part of our city for a while now. 3 months ago before I got my Matrix, in this same park I pulled out an 1842 seated dollar with a borrowed detector. My new Matrix at that time was on its way. So as I got the dollar first, I decided to set a goal for my Matrix M6. The goal was to have every
denomination in silver before spring time. (Dime, quarter, half, and dollar) The dime came pretty quick, in fact, a barber dime at that, I said , OK good start. That same day I got a great VDI reading of 91. I looked at the target ID and it said half dollar. I pinpointed the target and read the depth, it was 4 inch plug and saw the rim of the coin in the plug. I caught myself praying, please be silver, please be silver........ I dug out the plug and saw the rim of the coin in the plug. I called for my buddy Chris to pull it out. I wanted him to be the first to lay hands on the coin. He shouted, "Its a 42 walking Liberty." I told my buddies, OK guys all I need is a quarter. Well the day came to a close and no quarter. The next week we all went back to the same park with my Matrix in hand. I kept talking to myself "Silver quarter, silver quarter, where are you silver quarter." I got the normal clads, and a 56 roosevelt dime, some wheaties. Then there it was, BAM, I got a great tone in my headphones. The VDI at 83, it read quarter but it gave me a half bar reading on the ID scale. Then it fell to a quarter bar and then back to a half bar. I had to dig it. I checked the depth at 3 inches, I said, come on silver!!!!! There it was, a 1942, Washington. But why the low bar readings. When I put the plug back in the ground out fell a hunk of garbage metal nestled right next to it. That proves how great the discrimination is on the Matrix M6. And my goal was now complete thanks to White's incredible new matrix M6.......

M6 gets the "cents" in dry dirt!

Hello Whites,

This is Rob from S. Williamsport, PA. I have had yet another fantastic day with my Matrix M6. On 6/22/06 my hunting buddy Kirk and I decided to hunt an old township meeting hall erected in 1846. We were getting a bag full of wheaties both, and the normal clads. Then I got this real faint tone in my headphones. The VDI was jumping between 83 and 91 with a half bar reading on the target id. (It seemed like all the targets were giving me a half bar that day because of the extremely dry dirt). I pinpointed the target at 8in. I tried to dig a plug but the dirt was like powder, but then out popped what looked like a Matron cent. I yelled over to Kirk to "come here". He said , "Just put it in my hands, don't tell me what it is." He couldn't believe it. An 1834 Matron cent. About a half an hour later with my Matrix in hand. I got another faint signal at 7in. deep. This time the VDI was showing me an 81 to an 83. I thought for sure it was silver, but no, I was wrong. It was another large cent. An 1850 braided hair one cent piece. Kirk once again could not believe it. He said to me, "Man Rob, you are a great detectorist." I said thanks, but the Matrix M6 is what made me the hunter I am today. Once again the Whites M6 just keeps proving itself.

Thanks again.

M6 shows two VDIs and is RIGHT!

First trip out with the Matrix M6.

I have been an avid metal detectorist for over 30 years. During that time, and hunting a variety of sites and circumstances, I have concluded that one single machine will not serve all my detecting needs. The fact that the MXT/DFX coils are completely interchangeable with the Matrix M6 makes "sharing accessories" with my other detectors a definite plus. Although I still like my XLPro for its excellent discrimination characteristics and sensitivity, early reports made me want to take a closer look at the Matrix M6. Knowing that there are still many good targets being masked by trash items, the M6 sounded like it would be an easy to use detector that could be swept slower than my XLPro. An attribute that should work very well in helping me separate some of that trash from the remaining treasures.

After I got the new M6 from the dealer, I assembled it, ran it through a series of air-tests (to determine target ID numbers of typical coins) and immediately headed off to coin hunt a rural churchyard. This churchyard has been hunted many times in the past, by many different folks. But if there is one thing I have come to believe over the years, it is that no one area is ever completely hunted out. And, although the churchyard didn't fill my pockets with old coins on this day, I did manage to find three old Wheat cents, a silver quarter and a nice old pocketknife. And, in doing so, I proved my "never hunted out" theory.

Similar to the results I had found while air-testing the detector before my hunt, two of the Wheat pennies read 74 on the VDI and one read 77. The silver Washington Quarter read a solid 82, and uncovering it was a very pleasant surprise. The brass pocket knife provided an unusual visual display, bouncing back and forth between 18 and 72, depending on the direction of my sweep. I have to admit that I almost passed up the knife, thinking it was going to be some sort of aluminum trash. But, since the detector was new to me, and I was not yet familiar with every numeric indication possible, I dug the target out of curiosity. And, although it is probably not of great monetary value, it is a nice find that I will likely never duplicate. If nothing else, it taught me to not simply "hunt by the numbers" as there may be hidden treasures that are partially masked, or those that do not provide a numeric display that I may be accustomed to finding.

Thanks to White's Electronics for adding another great metal detector to your "lineup". The Matrix M6 has quickly earned a starting position in mine.
